Match Report
This week we played top of the league who had not lost any of their games. But they had only come acrossed teams near the bottom of the league. From the kick off we caused chessington problems and it was clear to see that as they had quite a young side they always looked to play the ball over the top to 2 strikers after passing it around abit and that the other teams did not know how to deal with this but from the experience of Sean O'malley and Patrick Adams they did not get much luck with this. It was a good game of football as both teams did pass the ball around but Ashtead looked the better team as we put them under pressure and had more chances of scoring.
From every bit of the pitch Ashtead matched chessington plus that extra bit, we played some good football through the middle and the wings with Andy Maclenwans shot bouncing off the bar and Will Constant coming close with a goal. Luca Cicero and John Elston caused problems down the wings taking a player on and getting the ball in the box. Andy, Jack sponder and Max Omo kept the middle strong and won the battle of the midfield. We could just not put the goals away and chessington were forced to take shots from far out that did not bother Ian Cobbett and 1st half finished 0-0.
The 2nd half we went out as we finsihed the 1st half. but as the last 20 mins came we started to get tired and the teams looked more equals with more mistakes coming from both sides. Ian Cobbett made some great 1 on 1 saves to keep us in the games, at the other end there keeper also made a great save from John Elstons shot and we tried to get the rebound in but no luck.
I made some changes Dan Overden on for Luca Cicero, Alex Gibson on for Max Omo as i changed it about it took us time to get used to the changes and a ball came over the top which was not dealt with and it was scored a nothing goal 1-0 to chessington. We did not deserve to loose this so we pushed on for the goal with Dan overden coming close to scoring on the right wing. I brang myself off for Ian Munday, and on the last min we won a free kick which Dan Overden stepped up to take he swung it in no got on the end of it but it went in the top corner 1-1 and it was the right result for a well matched game of football. Even their supporters said "they deserved to at least get a draw ashtead were the better team". so we are still undefeated with wins and draws we just need to be more clinicle but out football is looking really good.
